Description
Playing Outside-A Study in 4ths-Lesson 2 is the second lesson of a new lesson series exploring different ways to use patterns in 4th to take a line “outside” the chord changes.
In this lesson, we continue working with more 4th patterns in a variety of keys. Although the note sequences are the same, the patterns are written in 7/8, 6/4, 5/4 and 5/8. We start applying the lines to some chords and discuss how to use them inside the chord sound as well as outside.
The purpose of lesson one is to get the student started down the road to mastery of this interval so that they can use these lines “at will” while improvising.
I demonstrate all the lines on the tenor saxophone and give you tips and ideas on how to best practice them. (33 Minute Video Lesson and PDF of 4th patterns)
