Description
This is the 7th lesson in a series on learning how to play the saxophone from the very beginning. This series of lessons will be focused on learning the fundamentals of playing the saxophone and developing good habits. This series will be primarily out of the Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for alto saxophone so you will need that book to work out of. In this lesson I take you through the basics of playing with correct finger position, how to articulate the notes properly and common mistakes and pitfalls that beginners experience. I take you through page 12-13 in the Essential Elements book and talk about the things to be aware of when practicing these pages. I take you through a bunch of songs in this lesson and remind you of all the basics that we have covered. We play through Aura Lee as a duet, Frere Jacues, When the Saints Go Marching In, Old MacDonald and Ode To Joy. Lasty I take you through “Hard Rock Blues” and talk a little about learning the A blues scale and starting to improvise. I play many of the examples for you to hear and review many of the basics I covered in Lessons 1-6. (Video)
