Here’s a great Branford Marsalis interview that I just watched on SOTW (Sax on the Web). I thought this interviewer did a great job! A lot of what he said about classical music as compared to jazz really it home with me. In college, I was so stressed to play a classical piece, it had to be perfect and adhere to the composers wishes. I was so much more relaxed playing jazz and just winging it! I’m the same way today about public speaking. I am more comfortable having a general idea of what I want to talk about and then winging it then trying to speak from a script or even notes. When I do the latter, it is so much more stressful and awkward. When I wing it things usually go pretty well………probably because there is some improvisation involved…………Hope you enjoy the interview. Yes, great interview. The interviewer is Jian Ghomeshi who hosts a show called ‘Q’. He also did a great interview with Sonny Rollins. Check it out:
