Here’s a great masterclass by Branford Marsalis. There’s a lot of wisdom in this 18 minutes. I love Branford’s sound on the soprano. What he says about the importance of melody and speaking through your music to people is huge. Making some sort of connection with the audience………….Great stuff! Check it out!

This is great! Thanks for all of the good info you share on your site.
I just purchased a mp for my soprano from SopranoPlanet. Joe is great to work with and the mp is super. I got his info off your site also.
Thanks,

Thanks, Steve! He is my favorite model for soprano sound and a wonderful guy. But what does he mean with “the horn is high”? Physically high, mouthpiece more in? I don’t see him hold his horn high…

Lutz,
I just think he is talking about having his neck strap pulled up so the horn comes to his mouth. Many players including me, play with the sax lower and we tilt our heads down to get the mouthpiece. Branford is saying that that isn’t a good thing to be doing…………..
