About 7 years ago I had a Peter Ponzol ML .110 tenor saxophone mouthpiece. It was my favorite mouthpiece at the time. Big fat sound but when I pushed it it had loads of power. There was only one problem…..I could never find good reeds for it. It would always fail the suction test and then when a reed would work I would put it down and when I picked it up it would no longer work. I sent it to Peter Ponzol who said there was a slight nick in the side rail of the mouthpiece. He fixed it and sent it back. The funny thing was that after that I didn’t really like it as much! Well, ever since then I’ve had that Ponzol ML mouthpiece on my mind. I saw this one on ebay and snagged it up. It plays great. Nice lush sound down low and full sweet sound up high. I really like these mouthpieces. Mr. Ponzol does a great job with them. I’m amazed that he could get a link type sound out of these pieces using the design he does but I think it works. I use to own a couple M2 and they were great also. Listen………
I have an ML and an M2, both 110. I find the ML really hard work to push air through and need a very soft reed on it.
When I can get it working, I find the ML has a brighter and more complex/expressive tone, but not the volume of the M2.
Hey Steve,
I finally got around to following some advice that Joe Giardullo gave me about using an Optimum soprano ligature on this piece (as well as a “Missing Link”). Crazy, but it matches up perfectly.
