Very Beginner Alto Saxophone

This is  a series on learning how to play the alto saxophone from the very beginning. This series of lessons will be focused on learning the fundamentals of playing the saxophone and developing good habits. This series will be primarily out of the Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for alto saxophone so you will need that book to work out of. In this lesson I take you through the basics of how to put on your reed, how to hold the sax and how to form a correct embouchure. These are great lessons for the beginner who wants to learn the correct way to play the sax and get the most out of it.

Very Beginner Tenor Saxophone

Sax Specific Lessons

These lessons are all saxophone specific.  They deal with different aspects of proper saxophone playing.  Theese aren't in any specific order but are meant to be chosen when you want to work on a specific aspect of saxophone playing.  I usually recommend  the Great Sound and Embouchure lesson to beginner students.  The Intermediate lessons can be taken at any time although I would wait on the altissimo and overtone lessons until you have a good grasp of the saxophone basics.

Beginner Improvisation Lessons

These are lessons for the beginner improviser.  I'm always adding new lessons so these lists will always be growing as I add lessons to the list.  I usually start students on the major scales, then blues scales, then triads and chords and the modes. Usually in that order.  Sometimes I change the order depending on the needs of the specific student.

Intermediate Improvisation Lessons

This is the Intermediate lesson list.  At this point things get a little trickier.  As an intermediate player you should have a firm grasp of all your major scales, dorian modes, mixolydian modes and major, minor and dominant 7th chords.  By this point you have a variety of lessons and directions you can choose from.  Usually I start students on the "Mastering the Dominant Bebop Scale" series.
